2.3 Upgrading SUSE Linux Enterprise Point of Service 11 to SUSE Linux Enterprise Point of Service 11 SP3

Upgrading SUSE Linux Enterprise Point of Service 11 to SUSE Linux Enterprise Point of Service 11 SP3 consists of two steps:

  • upgrading SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3,

  • upgrading SUSE Linux Enterprise Point of Service 11 to SUSE Linux Enterprise Point of Service 11 SP3.

These two steps can be performed either together or separately. For information on the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 upgrade, consult the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3 Installation Quick Start guide.

If you want to upgrade SUSE Linux Enterprise Point of Service 11 at the same time as SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11, check the Include Add-On Product from Separate Media option during selection of the installation mode. You will be asked to select the SUSE Linux Enterprise Point of Service 11 SP3 installation source.

If you want to upgrade SUSE Linux Enterprise Point of Service 11 after the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 upgrade, use the YaST Add-On Products module and add SUSE Linux Enterprise Point of Service 11 SP3 as an add-on. Network upgrade is not supported in this scenario and results in installation failure during the second installation stage because of DNS resolving failure. You can work around this limitation by switching to a second console (CtrlF2), logging in as root and starting DNS server manually with the rcnamed start command.

During the upgrade installation, you will be asked to select a SUSE Linux Enterprise Point of Service pattern. If you do not want to change the installed pattern, click Next.

2.3.1 SUSE Linux Enterprise Point of Service Configuration After Upgrade

The Administration Server does not need to be configured after upgrading. Only the Branch Server needs reconfiguration after an upgrade. The non-interactive reconfiguration is triggered via the posInitBranchserver -r -n command.
