8 Creating a Private Network

8.1 Prerequisites

These steps assume the following have been completed:

  • Your Administrator has created a valid external network for your environment. See Book “Installing with Cloud Lifecycle Manager”, Chapter 28 “UI Verification”, Section 28.4 “Creating an External Network” for more details.

  • Your Administrator has provided you with the IP address or hostname for the Horizon Dashboard. See Chapter 3, Cloud Admin Actions with the Dashboard for more details.

You will want to use the user credentials that your Administrator has provided to you when you access the dashboard.

8.2 Creating a Router

  1. Access Horizon and log in with your credentials. Contact your Administrator if you do not know your login credentials.

  2. Open the Create Router wizard by following these steps:

    1. Navigate to Routers under the Network menu.

    2. Press the Create Router button.

  3. Give your router a name and then click the Create Router button again:

    1. Select a Router Name.

    2. Select an External Network from the drop down menu.

    3. Press the Create Router button.

8.3 Creating a Network and Subnet

  1. Access Horizon and log in with your credentials. Contact your Administrator if you do not know your login credentials.

  2. Open the Create Network wizard by following these steps:

    1. Navigate to Networks under the Network menu.

    2. Press the Create Network button.

  3. On the first window of the create network wizard:

    1. Choose a Network Name.

    2. Select the Next button.

  4. On the second window of the create network wizard:

    1. Choose a Subnet Name.

    2. Enter a Network Address (CIDR) for your subnet.

    3. Select the Next button.

  5. On the final window of the Create Network wizard:

    1. Ensure that Enable DHCP is checked.

    2. For a basic network setup, leave the Allocation Pools, DNS Name Servers, and Host Routes fields blank.

    3. Select Create when finished.

  6. The next step is to attach your subnet to your router.

    1. Navigate to Routers under the Network menu.

    2. Click on your router name to bring up its settings.

  7. Create the interface:

    1. Select the Interfaces tab.

    2. Click the Add Interface button.

  8. Complete the interface creation:

    1. Select your subnet from the drop down menu.

    2. select the Add Interface button.

    Do not enter a value for the IP Address (Optional) field as this can cause other issues.

  9. To confirm your router is setup properly you can:

    1. Click on the Network Topology menu option:

    2. Ensure it looks correct.
