B Switching to Extended Minor Version Support #
Mirroring the Extended Minor Version Support (EMS) repositories and enabling them on your system is documented as part of Section 4, “Mirroring SUSE Multi-Linux Support repositories with RMT” and Section 5, “Registering RHEL with RMT”.
However, if your RHEL system is already registered to the RMT server under a standard subscription and you need to switch to EMS, this section highlights the relevant steps.
The RMT server is installed and up to date.
The RMT server has enough space to mirror the EMS repositories, which are separate from the standard repositories. You can enable both, but this uses significantly more disk space on the RMT server because of duplicate packages. Alternatively, you can clean up the standard repositories before you mirror the EMS repositories.
Your SUSE Multi-Linux Support subscription includes Extended Minor Version Support (EMS).
If you previously mirrored the standard repositories but now only need the EMS repositories, use this procedure to clean up the standard repositories:
Disable the standard product. This disables all the associated repositories:
#rmt-cli products disable 2538If you no longer need the High Availability repositories, disable this product too:
#rmt-cli products disable 2539There is no Extended Minor Version Support for High Availability.
Free up space on the RMT server by cleaning up the packages from the disabled repositories:
#rmt-cli repos clean
Repositories must be mirrored on the RMT server before you can access them on your RHEL system. Use this procedure to mirror the EMS repositories:
On the RMT server, update the available product and repository metadata:
#rmt-cli syncFind the EMS version you need and enable it using the listed
ID:#rmt-cli products list --all --name=SLL-EMS#rmt-cli products enable PRODUCT_IDThis enables all the default repositories.
(Optional) If you need the
SourceorDebugrepositories, find and enable them with the following commands:List all the repositories for your EMS version (for example, 9.6):
#rmt-cli repos list --all | grep SLL | grep VERSIONEnabled repositories have the status
Mirror. Unenabled repositories have the statusDon't Mirror.Enable the repositories you need with their numeric IDs. You can enable multiple repositories at once:
#rmt-cli repos enable REPO_ID1 REPO_ID2 REPO_ID3
Start package mirroring for the enabled repositories:
#rmt-cli mirrorThis will take some time to complete.
After the repositories finish mirroring, you can enable them on your RHEL system. This procedure registers the system if it was previously unregistered, or switches the system to EMS if it was previously registered under a standard subscription.
On the RHEL system, download the latest
rmt-client-setup-resscript:#curl -O https://installer-updates.suse.com/SUSE/Updates/SLL-REG/9/installer/update/rmt-client-setup-resThe option
--remote-name(or-O) writes the output to a local file with the same name as the remote file.Run the
rmt-client-setup-resscript with the URL of the RMT server as a parameter, and specify the version you need with the--productoption (for example, 9.6):#sh rmt-client-setup-res https://RMT_SERVER --product VERSIONYou should see
Successfully registered system.Verify the installed product:
#SUSEConnect --status-textVerify the available repositories:
#dnf repolist allThe default repositories should be
enabled. You will also see optionalSourceandDebugrepositories with the statusdisabled. These repositories are listed and can be enabled even if they are not mirrored on the RMT server. However, you can only download content from a repository if it is mirrored on the RMT server.(Optional) If you need the
SourceorDebugrepositories, enable them using theirrepo id. You can enable multiple repositories at once:#dnf config-manager --enable REPO_ID1 REPO_ID2 REPO_ID3Run the update command to make sure there are no errors:
#dnf update
