5 Installing SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability

The packages for configuring and managing a cluster are included in the High Availability installation pattern. This pattern is only available after the SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability extension (SLE HA) is installed. SLE HA can be installed along with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES), or after SLES is already installed.

To install SLE HA along with SLES, see the Deployment Guide for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. To install SLE HA after SLES is already installed, use this procedure:

Requirements
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is installed and registered with the SUSE Customer Center.

  • You have an additional registration code for SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability.

Procedure 5.1: Installing the High Availability packages
  1. Enable the High Availability extension:

    # SUSEConnect -p sle-ha/15.7/x86_64 -r ADDITIONAL_REGCODE
  2. Install the High Availability pattern:

    # zypper install -t pattern ha_sles
  3. Repeat these steps on all machines that will be part of the cluster.

    Tip
    Tip: Cloning nodes with AutoYaST

You do not need to repeat these steps if you intend to use AutoYaST to install the rest of the cluster nodes. The clones will have the same installed packages as the original node.
